The futuristic setting means that costume and props do not have to conform to a specific historical period. Generally, 19th or 20th century European, Chinese and American styles work best, with Wild West fashion being of particular merit for those of appropriate background.
Popular culture references are to be avoided; an Iron Maiden t-shirt is a priceless antique from ‘Earth-that-was’ and no-one in their right mind would risk wearing one openly.
Similarly, any refreshments should conform to the same standard, no Coke cans or other well-known brands should be used in IC areas. Of course, that doesn’t prevent you simply removing the label from a bottle of Coke or gluing a new one over the can. Discreet or lesser known labels are acceptable, such as those found on ale bottles. There are a lot of label resources on the Facebook page that you can print out and use, or adapt if you want.
Melee and projectile weapons should be of a historic, modern or 'near future' sci-fi. No high fantasy weapons please!
Ranged weapons must be of a suitable replica quality. Toy guns are permitted if they are of a sufficient quality and scale to avoid breaking the atmosphere of the game. Nerf guns are perfectly acceptable if they are painted to a reasonable standard for example. We understand that replicas, airsoft guns and the like are expensive and sometimes hard (or even illegal) to obtain, people on the Facebook group can often advise on what kind of toy guns look good, and if you want to try anything out the monster room may have guns it can lend new players to avoid spending a lot of money before you’re sure of what you want to play or do.
Please be mindful of the VCRA and its restrictions on purchasing and making realistic looking firearms. It is the player's responsibility to ensure they are up to date on the law and not breaking it.
Mechanics’ tools and medical kits should be of believable quality. Any actual tools that don’t break the aforementioned safety guidelines such as spanners, bandages, voltmeters and stethoscopes add immensely to the atmosphere and allow more interesting roleplaying whilst using professional skills. Also remember this is a sci-fi game, and has Western and Chinese elements in – this gives you a lot of freedom when looking at props and roleplay, we encourage a variety of things to let you have fun!
If you have any props you are not sure about with regard to phys-rep or safety guidelines, then please contact the organisers well before the event.
